Intermediate Common Sense Education School 23-24

Shallowater Intermediate has demonstrated its commitment to taking a whole-community approach to preparing its students to think critically and use technology responsibly to learn, create, and participate while preparing them for the perils that exist in the online realm, such as plagiarism, loss of privacy, and cyberbullying. With the right support, kids can take ownership of their digital lives, engage with real issues, and change their communities for the better. The recognition acknowledges our school’s commitment to creating a culture of digital citizenship. Here are a few ways Intermediate celebrated Digital Citizenship Week:

  • Mrs. Phillips shared Common Sense Media parent resources via Parent Square this week.
  • Students engaged in digital citizenship lessons in the library with Mrs. Cox and Ms. Elli using Common Sense Media resources.
  • Students also learned about digital citizenship at the beginning of the year with Mrs. Wiggins through learning.com.
  • Students participated in Digital Citizenship Week Dress Up Days (see photos below)
    • Tuesday – Superhero Day (Dress up as a superhero, keeping yourself and others safe online)
    • Wednesday – Unity Day (Wear orange, which represents standing up against cyberbullying)
    • Thursday – Wacky Sock Day (Wear wacky socks to think about your digital footprint)
    • Friday – Hat Day (Wear a "thinking hat" to remember to ask questions about what we see online)

THANK YOU to Mrs. Phillips, Mrs. Wiggins, Mrs. Cox, and Ms. Elli for providing these valuable lessons to our young learners who are beginning to learn how to use devices safely and responsibly! Congratulations to Shallowater Intermediate on becoming a Common Sense Education School for the 23-24 school year!
